If, like me, you’re wondering what Google Gemini can do to help streamline and revamp your digital marketing, you’ve landed in the right place.

Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, has been making remarkable progress in recent months. The AI model (or large language model/LLM) has been quietly bubbling away in the shadows of ChatGPT for a while now.

After around eight weeks of thorough testing, Gemini definitely feels like a valuable alternative. If, however, you’re using Google services for your business, it’s likely to be an even better option.

As a Google Workspace user, I wanted to explore how I can optimise productivity with the included tools. Additionally, Gemini is now integrated with many of your Workspace apps. This certainly piqued my interest.

What Can Google Gemini do?

Let’s take a look at some of the things Gemini can assist you with on your digital marketing campaigns. While a Google Workspace account isn’t a requirement, it provides a seamless workflow, making it a valuable combination.

The Quick Answer

What can Google Gemini do?

In short, Gemini is an AI assistant that helps with writing, learning, planning, image generation, coding and much, much more.

It’s available as a standalone service, but also integrates with other Google services such as Gmail and Drive. As a result, it improves overall productivity for anyone already using Google’s services.

What I’ve Been Using It For

Version being used at the time of writing: 2.0 Flash (for everyday tasks, plus more features). Also available are 2.5 Flash (experimental), 2.5 Pro (experimental) and Deep Research with 2.5 Pro.

Game changer!

One of the most useful discoveries I’ve experienced with Gemini is its vast knowledge of WordPress block themes and the block editor. When switching this website from Kadence to Twenty Twenty-Five, any questions I previously had to ask on the support forum were answered by Gemini. It even wrote all of the code I needed. Bonus!

Furthermore, I use it to gather ideas for blog posts and title suggestions. Rewrite longer articles into short paragraphs for social media, and I’ve also been experimenting with image generation.

Ideal to use on your social media channels, website, newsletter, etc.

The latter could potentially be used in your digital marketing campaigns whenever you need a visual accompaniment. It’s certainly not going to replace professional photography, but it’s absolutely usable for anything you might usually grab a stock image for.

Going forward, I fully intend to utilise Gemini as part of my mission to keep my hourly rate lower than most larger agencies. It will help me achieve a lot more with fewer outgoings, meaning I can pass these savings on to my clients.

Pricing & Plans

If you’re using Gemini with Google Workspace, you have four options. Most small businesses and freelancers use the Business Starter plan (£5.90 per month). This comes with a basic version of Gemini that you can chat with and use in Gmail.

From the Business Standard plan (£11.80 per month) upwards, you get access to the full set of AI tools that Gemini offers. All plans come with a free trial, and you get a small discount when committing to a yearly contract.

You can, of course, use your personal Google account, which is what I’ve been doing. As a Pixel user, Gemini is with you whenever and wherever you need it. The phone also comes with AI Premium (including 2 TB of cloud storage) free for a year. Following that, it’s £18.99 per month.

Alternatively, you can use the completely free version with any personal Google account. Top tip: using either Google Pixel Buds or Sony headphones such as the XM4, XM5, etc, you can access your AI assistant hands-free, on the go.

With the latter, make sure Gemini is set as your main assistant on your Android phone and then set the custom button to Google Assistant on the headphones app. This can be found under ‘Change function of [CUSTOM] button’.

If you’re anything like me and need to jot down ideas while you’re out and about, this is invaluable. Press and hold the custom button to ask Gemini to create a note, add items to a list or start gathering information on a subject.

What Gemini Isn’t

It’s important to remember that while Google Gemini is a powerful tool, it’s not a replacement for human creativity and strategic thinking.

Gemini isn’t a replacement for your marketing team, external agency or freelancer. Yes, AI is changing how we work, but aside from providing ideas, data, and inspiration, it won’t actually do the work for you.

As a business, you’ll simply be able to access more information with fewer resources. What we do with that information is still our responsibility as human beings.

Who better to answer the question, ‘What can Google Gemini do to revamp your digital marketing?’ than Gemini itself? I mean, I’m learning this stuff as I share it, so I won’t pretend to know more than the AI model.

While directly pasting AI content into your blog posts isn’t advisable, this time around, it kinda feels somewhat relevant. My Yoast SEO plugin instantly flagged up the sentence length, but I’ve edited it very slightly based on recommendations from Grammarly.

Here’s what Gemini had to say regarding how you can use it to boost your marketing campaigns and productivity. The SEO and digital marketing copy sections are particularly exciting…

Content Creation & Enhancement

  • Generate Blog Post Ideas and Outlines: Gemini can quickly brainstorm relevant and engaging blog post topics based on industry trends, your target audience’s interests, and even your existing content. It can also create detailed outlines to structure your articles effectively, saving you valuable planning time. For example, you could ask Gemini for “blog post ideas about the future of social media marketing” or “create an outline for a blog post on the benefits of content marketing for small businesses.”
  • Draft Marketing Copy: Need compelling ad headlines, social media posts, email subject lines, or website copy? Gemini can generate initial drafts based on your product or service, target audience, and desired tone. While these drafts might need refinement, they provide a solid starting point and can significantly speed up the copywriting process. Try prompting it with “write three different ad headlines for our new eco-friendly cleaning product” or “create a social media post announcing our upcoming webinar on SEO best practices.”
  • Summarise Content: Gemini can quickly condense lengthy articles, reports, or transcripts into concise summaries, enabling marketers to efficiently grasp key information. This is useful for staying updated on industry news or understanding the main points of customer feedback.
  • Rewrite and Rephrase Content: If you need to adapt existing content for different platforms or audiences, Gemini can help rephrase and rewrite it while maintaining the core message. This can save time when repurposing blog posts into social media updates or creating different versions of ad copy.

SEO & Keyword Research

  • Generate Keyword Ideas: Gemini can suggest relevant keywords, long-tail variations, and related terms based on a seed keyword or topic. This can help you expand your keyword strategy and discover new search opportunities. For instance, you could ask for “related keywords for ‘best coffee beans’” or “long-tail keywords related to ‘organic skincare routine’.”
  • Understand Keyword Context & Intent: Gemini can analyse the context surrounding keywords, helping you understand the nuances of user search queries and their underlying intent. This allows you to create content that better aligns with what users are actually looking for.
  • Optimise Existing Content: You can provide Gemini with your existing website content and ask for suggestions on how to improve its on-page SEO. This may include recommending relevant internal and external links, optimising meta descriptions and title tags, and enhancing content readability.
  • Identify “People Also Ask” (PAA) Questions: Gemini can generate lists of questions that searchers frequently ask related to a specific topic. This can inform your content strategy by helping you address common queries and potentially gain featured snippets in search results.

Marketing Analytics & Insights

  • Summarise Data & Identify Trends: By inputting marketing data (e.g., website analytics, social media engagement metrics), you can ask Gemini to summarise key findings and identify emerging trends. This can help you quickly understand performance and spot opportunities.
  • Generate Reports & Visualisations (in Preview): Gemini has capabilities within Google Cloud’s BigQuery and Looker (in preview) to help data analysts generate insights from data using natural language and even create automated reports and visualisations.
  • Gain Audience Insights: By analysing customer data, Gemini can help you understand audience demographics, preferences, and behaviours, enabling you to create more targeted and effective marketing campaigns.

Personalised Marketing

  • Create Personalised Content: By providing Gemini with customer data and preferences, you can generate tailored marketing messages, email content, and even ad copy that resonates with specific audience segments.
  • Develop Personalised Recommendations: Gemini can analyse user behaviour and data to provide personalised product or content recommendations, enhancing customer engagement and potentially driving conversions.

Campaign Planning & Strategy

  • Brainstorm Campaign Ideas: Gemini can help you generate creative and innovative ideas for marketing campaigns based on your goals, target audience, and budget.
  • Outline Marketing Campaigns: You can ask Gemini to create a structured outline for a new marketing campaign, including timelines, channels, and potential content formats.
  • Competitive Analysis: Gemini can analyse publicly available information about your competitors, providing insights into their strategies, strengths, and weaknesses.

Efficiency & Automation

  • Automate Repetitive Tasks: Gemini can help automate tasks like drafting initial email replies, summarising meeting notes, and even generating basic code snippets for website modifications.
  • Streamline Workflows: By assisting with various stages of the marketing process, from ideation to content creation and analysis, Gemini can help streamline your overall marketing workflows, freeing up your time for more strategic initiatives.

It’s important to remember that while Google Gemini is a powerful tool, it’s not a replacement for human creativity and strategic thinking. The best approach is to use Gemini as a collaborative assistant to enhance your marketing efforts, improve efficiency, and unlock new possibilities. You’ll still need your expertise to refine its outputs, ensure brand voice consistency, and develop overarching marketing strategies.

What Can Google Gemini do – Conclusion

From a business and digital marketing perspective, Gemini provides an equally appealing alternative to ChatGPT. If you’re already using Google Workspace, I’d go as far as saying it’s a better option due to its seamless integrations with Gmail and Drive.

Gemini isn’t a replacement for your marketing team or external agency. It is, however, going to help your business achieve a whole lot more with fewer resources and outgoings.

The world of marketing is changing at a rate we’ve never experienced before. The rise of AI, paired with a somewhat rocky economy, means marketing budgets are being reduced across the board.

AI tools, such as Gemini, will help your business keep up with the competition while reducing your marketing expenses. Your agency partner or internal team will have fewer overheads, meaning that savings can be (or at least should be) passed on to your business.

From helping you with website and marketing copy to content research, coding and keyword research, Gemini is a fast, reliable solution to help revamp your digital marketing campaigns.
